General management training scheme

As part of our commitment to building NHS leaders of the future and meeting good governance, general management trainees will be fully supported through a relevant Masters level qualification that best fits their aspirations and needs of the service.

For both types of placement, the three years in-work training is designed to help you reach your potential.

Work experience

Alongside your studies, you will undertake a series of placements in a wide range of management environments. These placements will allow you to get "hands-on" experience of the roles that general leaders and managers undertake. Your placements will provide:

  • a broad knowledge of the health and social care environment
  • real management responsibilities
  • an opportunity to choose a specialist area of work and study

The chance to work in various sections of the NHS experiencing the various challenges and rewards it brings.

Combined learning

In addition to the formal qualification, you will have access to a substantial in-house training programme to develop your leadership and management skills in a public sector environment. As part of this, you will form a learning group with other health and social care colleagues, developing your soft skills and develop strategies to deal with challenges faced within your role.
